Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center
Wolf Ridge is about adventures in learning. It is a place where minds open to the joy and wonder of discovery of our natural world.
In environmental education, the outdoors is the classroom – and ours is spectacular. Located on a ridge overlooking Lake Superior, Wolf Ridge’s 2,000 acre campus is bordered by the Baptism River and features creeks, two lakes, two high peaks, 18-miles of trail and a mixed forest of maple, birch and spruce.Wildlife is abundant and includes pine marten, eagles, moose, black bear, white-tailed deer, fox, wolves, beaver, peregrine falcons and loons.
Facilities include four classroom buildings, two dormitories, a dining hall, a raptor aviary, a library, two auditoriums, two rock-climbing walls, two outdoor ropes courses and an administration building. Our biomass boilers, wind turbines, solar hot water and on-site organic farm also serve as educational tools.
Wolf Ridge inspires the next generation of environmental learners through immersion, adventure and field study. Our broad spectrum of year-round environmental and outdoor learning programs for children, families, seniors and college students serve 15,000 people each year, including our K-12 Residential Environmental Education, Summer Camps, Family Programs, Wilderness Trips, Road Scholar Programs, and Ecology Credit Camps.

How to Participate
Here is a partial list of our adventures in learning:
Through our Family Camps and Trips, spend some quality time together in the great outdoors. Equal parts majestic and remote, our relaxed environment and naturalist-led learning opportunities will provide you and your family the kind of vacation you can only get at Wolf Ridge. Here, you’ll learn and grow together. We’ll take care of the details; you just have the time of your life.
Camp alumni think of our Summer Camps and Wilderness Trips as life-changing experiences. Here, campers will learn more about themselves, develop new skills, embrace challenges, experience new adventures and make lasting friendships in the outdoors.
A School Trip to our 2,000-acre classroom will teach students things they could never find in the pages of a book. Not only about the natural world, but also about themselves. As a fully-accredited school aligned with Minnesota Academic Standards, Wolf Ridge is a world-class educational experience designed to complement and enhance what happens in classrooms across the region.
A variety of different community, youth and professional groups make the trek to Wolf Ridge every year to learn about each other, meet, or participate in our natural and cultural history programs. We have a proven track record of providing excellent, hands on, active, and fun educational and team-building experiences for kids and adults.
Spending the day at Wolf Ridge is a great way to gain exposure to the kind of adventures you can find here. Guests are welcome to stop by our office and learn about special events, trails, our education animals, and more. It’s a great way to dip your toe into nature before diving in.
Wolf Ridge welcomes people of all abilities and learning styles. Trails are dirt/gravel. Displays in the Science Center are wheel-chair accessible.
