Wilderness Inquiry

We love using Wenonah kevlar canoes on our Boundary Waters trips! – R. Guthrie

Anyone. Anywhere. Anytime.

Who We Are:

Since 1978, Wilderness Inquiry (WI) has provided safe and rewarding outdoor experiences to more than 350,000 people. WI trips are open to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. We offer guided trips designed for adults, families, women and youth. Our mission is to connect people from all walks of life to the outdoors.

We take pride in the quality of trail guides chosen to lead our adventures. All of our guides are experienced wilderness leaders and have gone through extensive training and certification programs. Our trail guides hail from all over the country, bringing with them a wealth of experience, knowledge, and commitment.

Where We Go:

Within the Heart of the Continent, we offer trips to Voyageurs National Park, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, the White Otter Wilderness (northwest of Quetico Provincial Park), Isle Royale, and the Superior Hiking Trail. Take in the stunning beauty of the wilderness surrounding the Heart of the Continent by canoe, kayak or trail, depending on which journey you select. Whatever your timeline, we’re here to help you find your adventure.

What We Do:

On all of our trips you will experience beautiful destinations, fun activities, excellent instruction, great food and quality gear. But these things are just the beginning of the adventure—not the end in itself. We are passionate about helping people fully engage in life through shared adventure.

Through the medium of outdoor adventure, we inspire personal growth, enhanced awareness of the environment and community integration. Our adventures encourage people to open themselves to new possibilities and opportunities.

We believe the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors should be available to everyone, and we are committed to upholding our mission of inclusion in all that we do.

In 2013 alone, over 19,000 people experienced the outdoors as a part of a Wilderness Inquiry program.

As a result of participating in Wilderness Inquiry:

  • 95% of participants report better integration
  • 87% of participants report higher confidence
  • 72% of participants report greater independence
  • 65% of participants report stronger relationships
