Thunder Bay Art Gallery
The Thunder Bay Art Gallery is located on the north-east side of campus at Confederation College.
The Gallery exhibits Indigenous Contemporary Art from the Gallery’s Permanent Collection which is comprised of over 1600 works, and mainstream contemporary art from local and regional artists and national travelling exhibitions.
The Gallery started out in 1972 as part of the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society which had a small art gallery as part of its operation. It became very popular and had to expand its size so it moved after getting funding from the Museum Assistance Program. It officially opened its doors in 1976 as a National Exhibition Centre for Indian Art and now includes three galleries, and a community gallery covering 4000 square feet in total. Exhibitions change every 4 – 8 weeks.
The Art Gallery offers guided tours with advance notice, express tours as available, art classes, workshops, tours and resources for teachers.
