The Great Hawk Chase

Competition or Sporting Event

The Great Hawk Chase is the 5th of 10 races in the Minnesota Mountain Bike Series.

This race begins and ends in Lester Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Duluth. Two waterways, the Lester River and Amity Creek, join and empty into Lake Superior just two blocks from the race. There is a park playground, several hiking trails along the river, and numerous locations for people to swim or play in the swimming holes in the river. This is certainly one of the most family friendly locations for a bike race you'll find anywhere.

The Lester trails have long been a favorite underground place to ride in Duluth until fall 2009 when an agreement with the City of Duluth was established to legitimize and rehabilitate this trail system. After hundreds of hours of work, a 4 mile loop of flowing single track has been established along the gorgeous banks of Amity Creek.

A portion of the race course will follow the Lester Park cross country ski trails to allow passing lanes before single track begins. This year the race will be run in a counter-clockwise direction to provide several more punchy uphills and to allow riders to descend the west side of Amity Creek, which is an absolute blast to ride.
