Red Lion Smokehouse

Maple Bacon & Smoked Cheddar Burger – Alexander Skochinski

Red Lion Smokehouse is a barbecue restaurant and smokehouse in Thunder Bay's waterfront district.

If you love great food and good beer, this is the place to enjoy both. The beer list is made up of craft brews from local breweries as well as favourite Canadian, American and British brews.

Food is homemade with fresh, seasonal and local ingredients. Being a smokehouse, the meat is smoked slow and low and then finished in a Josper grill to seal in the flavour and keep the meat moist and tender.

If craft beer isn't your thing, there is a wide selection of wine, spirits, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages including locally roasted coffee, also available.

Family and Kid-Friendly Dining Notes

Children are welcome in our establishment until 10pm daily. Our washrooms have baby changing facilities and we have a wide selection of games to keep your young ones entertained. We have high chairs available for guests, but feel free to bring your own booster seat if you have one.

Locally or Family-Owned Business Notes

Red Lion Smokehouse is a family run and locally owned business. Husband and wife team, John Murray and Alexandra Bono opened the bar and restaurant in October 2014. Many of the suppliers they use, including Sleeping Giant Brewing Company and Rose N Crantz Roastery are also family run businesses based in Thunder Bay. Wherever possible, John & Alex champion local brewers, farmers, foragers, bakers and even distillers!

Accessibility Notes

We are an accessible facility. Our washrooms are accessible for wheel chairs and walkers. Doors have automatic openers for easy access.

Eco-Friendly Notes

We endeavour to be as eco-friendly as possible. We up-cycle and re-cycle wherever possible, including our furnishings and decor. In 2017, we eliminated as much single use plastic from our business as we could including straws and take away containers / cutlery. In 2018, we switched from daily menus to reduce the amount of paper we consume and in 2019 we moved to high efficiency hand dryers to do the same. In future, we hope to be able to install solar panels on the roof of our building and ceiling fans in our dining room to reduce our reliance on air conditioning. Our BIG goal is to purchase a anaerobic composter to reduce our waste even further.
