Paulsen Mine on Centennial Hiking Trail

Paulson MIne

The Paulsen Mine is located a short walk from the Gunflint Trail along the Centennial Hiking Trail. It was one of the primary shafts for explorations of iron ore and over 100 feet deep. The mine was named after John A. Paulsen who was one of the promoters of mining in the area. The mine is located within the Superior National Forest.

Accessibility Notes

The Paulsen Mine is accessed by parking at the Kekekabic Trailhead approximately 46 miles from Grand Marais on the Gunflint Trail. The first section of the Centennial Trail follows the Kekekabic Trail and the Paulsen Mine can be found on the left hand side of the trail about one-half of a mile in just past the turn off to the Fire Tower.
