Rustic cabins, full service marina, dining hall, natural sand beach, and so much more. Life of Riley is located at the end of Norwegian Bay on Lake Vermilion. The only resort on the bay and surrounded by wilderness, it is a great place for fishing, family, food, and fun.

Recreational Opportunities

There are many things to do at and around the resort. Enjoy the water by renting boats and motors, or canoes, kayaks, the paddle boat, or sail boat. Explore the woods on hiking trails both on the property and nearby. In the evening, gather in the Gazebo for a campfire. The kids will enjoy pool, pingpong, and arcade games in the gameroom. The resort also has a small trading post with gifts, tackle, and snacks. Life of Riley is known for is food. Come to the dining hall for breakfast 7 days a week from 7-10 am. Serving from May till mid August.

Driving Directions

Life of Riley Resort is on Lake Vermilion located in northeastern Minnesota. Drive north on Hwy 53. Once you reach Cook, LOR is 18 miles out on county hwy 24. There is good signage from Cook to the resort.

Locally or Family-Owned Business Notes

Life of Riley Resort was founded in 1929. It is one of the original that was built on the lake. It has been bought and sold four times. The current owners Rock and Lee Gillson have been there since 1980. Their children Josh, Caleb, and Sara are preparing to take over the business. If you are looking for a family owned and operated resort you have found your place.

Eco-Friendly Notes

Life of Riley has always done its part to help keep the lake and property smoothly and efficantly. The resort does recycle, do regualr maintenance on the cabins and the grounds, and is currently preparing for a major overhaul.

Seasons Open

Open from Fishing opener in May till the end of September


Cabins are fully equipped cottages. Ranging from single to seven bedrooms. Each have typical household appliances, cooking and eating utensils, towels and bedding; decks have picnic tables, chairs, and charcoal grills.
