Hartley Nature Center
Located in Hartley Park, Hartley Nature Center is a public facility managed by the non-profit Hartley Nature Center Inc., who uses the facility as a base for a variety of environment education programs throughout the year. The facility has an exhibit area that includes native animals, handicap accessible bathrooms, an information area, and a large parking lot with trail access. The nature center hosts a variety of programming year-round for all ages, distributes maps and information and also rents snowshoes and cross country skis in the winter.
Parking, many trails and the facility can accommodate people of all abilities.
Given our interest in environmental quality and education, our desire to make the new Hartley Nature Center facility a green building came naturally. Our building has 7500 square feet of space which includes four classrooms, an exhibit hall, an office area with library, mechanical areas, bathrooms and storage space. We were able to integrate a number of sustainable design features, including: renewable energy, energy conservation, use of recycled and non-toxic materials, and construction using Forest Stewardship Council certified wood.
