Located within the historic Pioneer Mine complex, owned by the City of Ely, it is a popular place for learning about the history of the Ely area and the many mines which were located along what has now become Miners Lake. Miners Lake was formed when the last underground mine was closed in 1967 and the pumps were shut off, allowing the water to rise.
Miners Lake is now a designated Trout lake and is stocked by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. A trout license is required to fish therein.
Miners Lake is surrounded by the Trezona Trail, a walking trai which covers 3.65 miles.
