Name of Person

Dick & Debbie Cooter

Dick Cooter:

His pots are sturdy, bold, and reflect the processes of making them. Simple decoration enhances the rich surface created by long wood fires. The traces of the artist's hand is both an antidote and protest to increasing uniformity. Impressions made in the soft clay reveal his tie to the work and to the landscape where it is made.

He fires a 125 cubic foot wood burning kiln, which he considers a partner in the work. Although he choose labor intensive methods, he considers himself a production potter. He makes functional pots and considers the user the final contributor in his work.

Deb Cooter:

She was introduced to rug weaving 35 years ago as a folk art. The tradition of using recycled clothing to weave decorative and functional household items appealed to both her creative and thrifty nature.

She has woven thousands of yards of rugs for people, developing her own style and color schemes. She continues to experiment with different patterns, utilizing her own hand-dyed cloth and new cotton fabrics to create contemporary designs from a traditional craft.
